Kansas City Eviction Defense Program. If you are being sued for eviction in Kansas City, Missouri , you have a right to an attorney.
211 is the contact center offering assistance in completing the online registration form for KCMO Right to Counsel if someone is unable to on their own due to lack of access or ability. Tenants are strongly encouraged to complete the form online themselves but 211 is a resource when needed so online registration isn!t a barrier. Note the tenant must have an active eviction notice and case number to be able to complete the form. Once a form is completed, the tenant will be entered into a database and assigned to a legal aid organization. If the case is eligible, legal representative will be assigned. Tenants are encouraged to call between 9am-5pm for application assistance.

Intake Procedure
CRNs: Please add caller first and last name to call record with this referral. Tenants are strongly encouraged to apply online. Once a form is completed, the tenant will be entered into a database and assigned to a legal aid organization. If case is eligible, legal representative will be assigned. Once assigned, the legal representative cannot be changed. IF THE HEARING DATE IS WITHIN 2 DAYS, IT'S RECOMMENDED THAT THE CLIENT COMPLETES A RTC APPLICATION, AND GOES TO THE HEARING IN PERSON TO REQUEST A CONTINUANCE WHILE THIS APPLICATION FOR LEGAL COUNSEL IS PROCESSED. THERE IS GENERALLY A HEARING DATE BEFORE THE TRIAL DATE. 211 COMMUNITY RESOURCE SPECIALISTS: CRS should assist callers in applying online if verbal permission is given. If a caller doesnât know their case number, go to www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/welcome.do and search for an eviction case by their first and last name. If unable to find one, send an email to Kristen with their contact information and case number. If it is within 5 days of the TRIAL date, caller can still put in an online application which will be declined due to timeline, but an eviction toolkit will be emailed to them with some resources.
